Program notes
Discovery of Daniel Larrieu and his extraordinary choreographic language
Born in 1957 in Marseille, Daniel Larrieu started as a professional dancer at the beginning of the 1980s with Wes Howard, Anne-Marie Reynaud and Régine Chopinot. Chiquenaudes obtained the second prize of the Choregraphic Competition of Bagnolet in 1982 and revealed his originality and creativity. On that same year, he created the company Astrakan-choreographic research and multiplied from then on experiences, from the gardens of the Royal Palace in Paris in which he rehearsed, to the swimming pool of Angers in which he created Waterproof.
In twenty years, Daniel Larrieu became a figurehead of contemporary dance. Since 1982, his choreographic works have seduced audiences with their light and serious poetry. + Qu'hier, plein feu et petit bateau by Pascal Roger, a documentary made of 15 extracts, revisits and condenses his previous works. This show is specific since it can be represented in strange and varied places such as a parking lot, a castle courtyard and a community centre.
This film allows us to enter Daniel Larrieu’s universe. It is a rare opportunity to discover this original creator, who explains this artistic expression that has been seducing a wide public for almost 20 years.
This film sets the context of the show + Qu'hier created in 2000 by Daniel Larrieu.
