Paul Merkelo and Matt Herskowitz "Gershwin's World" in Montreal

Trumpeter Paul Merkelo and pianist Matt Herskowitz delight us with a rediscovery of Gershwin’s world through their own arrangements of the legend’s works, a bridge between classical music and jazz. Both performers are recognized as leaders in their respective fields: Merkelo is one of the leading trumpeters of his generation, while Herskowitz excels both as a pianist and composer. Together, they create a unique musical moment, from which emanates a mysterious atmosphere, magnified by the decor of the Locoshop Angus, the first green industrial building in Canada.

The first Western composer to combine the classical tradition with harmonies and rhythms from jazz, Gershwin’s creativity has seen him hailed as a leading figure of this new genre.
