О программе

Catch Jakub Hrůša and the Bamberg Symphony in Vienna, where they are joined by soprano Christina Landshamer, alto Anna Lucia Richter, and the Wiener Singakademie under the direction of Heinz Ferslech to perform Mahler's Symphony No. 2, with the help of Gilbert Kaplan's version! Dubbed the "Resurrection," the piece demonstrates Mahler's ability to examine philosophical, religious, and existential questions through his music. Over five movements, he explores some of the most profound themes of the human condition, including death and resurrection. The score is deeply moving and builds to a tremendous climax that sees the vocal soloists and choir sing excerpts of German popular song, as well as a poem by German poet Klopstock, altered and completed by Mahler himself.

Note from the Bamberg Symphony: At the time of the concert on 27 January 2022, Europe was struggling with another peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to minimise the risks of infection for everyone on stage, the performance of Gustav Mahler's 2nd Symphony took place in a slightly reduced orchestration, based on the arrangement by Mahler expert Gilbert Kaplan.
