Sobre el programa...

In an exciting blend of East and West, the young French conductor Ludovic Morlot leads the National Youth Orchestra of China (NYO-China) in concert of music by Zhou Long, Tchaikovsky, and Dvořák, joined by the international superstar Chinese pianist Yuja Wang.

In its very first year and inspired by NYO-USA, NYO-China brings together 105 of China's most talented young instrumentalists for a summer orchestral training program based in the United States, directed by an international group of world-class teaching artists, and culminating in a three-city concert tour of China.

Before their tour begins, the young musicians present this concert at Carnegie Hall, whose musical program evokes the richly diverse origins of the orchestra. The evening begins with Chinese composer Zhou Long's The Rhyme of Taigu, a work that explores the energy and spirit behind the art of playing the Japanese Taiko ('fat drum'), called Taigu in Chinese. The program continues with Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, featuring Chinese pianist Yuja Wang as soloist, and closes with Dvořák's 'New World' Symphony.
