Svetlanov in the Spotlight

The Svetlanov Universe Festival celebrated Evgeny Svetlanov's 90th birthday in 2018 organized by the Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition! Hosted by the Moscow Conservatory, the festival brought together for 13 concerts during a weekend musicians and friends who knew and loved the Russian maestro to pay tribute with memorial performances and special events.

A one-of-a-kind musical commemoration and a first for the city of Moscow, the festival featured the artistry of the Russian State Symphony Orchestra. Known as the USSR State Symphony Orchestra until 1992, Svetlanov led the ensemble for nearly 40 years. The many concert programs highlighted different facets of Maestro Svetlanov’s legacy, pairing selections from his favorite composers with his own compositions.

The world-class performances were given by artists who had the privilege of working with him (Vadim Repin, Alexander Kniazev, Dmitri Makhtin, Alexander Rudin) and younger musicians who admire him (Andrei Korobeinikov, Andrea Fallico) under the brilliant leadership of past winners and finalists of the Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition (Robert Trevino, Lio Kuokman, Roberto Forés-Veses and Kalle Kuusava).
