Bernard Haitink, It comes my way Portrait of a conductor by Hans Haffmans

About

Hundred of recordings, awards, and honors over the course of 60 years show the weight of the career of one of the 20th and 21st century’s most active orchestral conductors. Now in his 90s, Dutch television host Hans Haffmans tell the story of Bernard Haitink’s life and career in a moving documentary. Excerpts from rehearsals for his coming concert at the Berliner Philharmonie in a Mahler program, interviews, masterclasses, and archival footage make up the filmmaker’s very astute portrait. From his retirement home in the south of France, Haitink reflects on his incredible career all the while looking toward the future. To the question “Why do you continue to conduct?” he responds: “Maybe I could do better the next time...maybe”.
