Program notes

Meet up with the incomparable Gustavo Dudamel at the 2017 edition of the Berliner Philharmoniker’s beloved open-air summer concert at the Waldbühne! The maestro leads the prestigious ensemble through a thrilling program dedicated to the legends of the Rhine River, with a particular spotlight on masterworks by Schumann and Wagner.

The concert begins in grand style with Schumann’s Third (and final) Symphony, also known as the “Rhenish,” a majestic example of Romanticism. Dudamel and the legendary orchestra continue with a lineup of selections from Wagner’s operas, which abound with references to the tales and mysteries of the Rhine: excerpt from works like Das Rheingold, Götterdämmerung, and Siegfried enhance the narrative mystique of this memorable event that can't help but enchant fans of the operatic master…
