Program notes
As the Horowitz Competition Kyiv-Geneva approaches its grand finale, four of its most illustrious laureates come together to perform a tribute concert to the legendary pianist for whom the competition was named. These expert pianists—all of Ukrainian origin, like Vladimir Horowitz—interpret some of the late, great virtuoso's most emblematic works by Scarlatti, Chopin, Beethoven, Ravel, and more!
Our star-studded lineup includes Illia Ovcharenko in Scarlatti and Chopin (including the "Heroic" Polonaise and "Ocean" Etude), Polina Sasko in Mendelssohn and Ravel (the sublime Sonatine), Antonii Baryshevskyi in Beethoven's epic "Appassionata" Sonata, and 2013 Cliburn winner Vadym Kholodenko in Mozart and the jaw-dropping, crowd-pleasing Carmen Variations, a transcription by Horowitz with which he regaled countless delighted audiences as a show-stopping encore.
This is just one of over a thousand thrilling concerts available on medici.tv, the web's leading classical music streaming platform!
