Program notes

Praised for his “poise, tonal purity, and technique to spare” (The Boston Globe), Swedish violinist Daniel Lozakovich returns to the moody and virtuosic Bruch Violin Concerto — the piece with which he made his celebrated Verbier Festival concert debut at just 16 — in his first ever collaboration with the renowned Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under maestro Klaus Mäkelä. To complete this glorious program at the Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul, part of their 2025 East Asian tour, the RCO shines in a monumental work they know intimately: Mahler’s epic Fifth Symphony, especially beloved for its heart-wrenching Adagietto, in which the composer himself led the orchestra over a century ago.
