Program notes

From the 2025 Festival Paax GNP in the Mexican Caribbean, Passion, Rite, and Farce opens with Silvestre Revueltas’s Homage to Federico García Lorca, a powerful three-part piece created just a few months after the poet’s assassination at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. Next comes the world premiere of Concerto Rapa Nui by Oriol Cruixent (b. 1976), with the extraordinary Chilean horn player Matías Piñeira as the soloist in a piece that is also “a space to raise awareness about the importance of respecting and preserving cultures and languages in danger of extinction” (Universal Edition). The program closes with Stravinsky’s 1949 version of the Pulcinella Suite, a quintessential work from the composer’s neoclassical period rooted in the aesthetics of Baroque Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.

Created by Alondra de la Parra and nestled in the paradise of the Mexican Caribbean, the Festival Paax GNP comes to medici.tv for its 2025 edition, and you can catch four live broadcast concerts all with the extraordinary Impossible Orchestra and internationally renowned soloists in symphonic favorites, contemporary classics, and thrilling world premieres, plus special features produced by medici.tv!
