When we think of the national musical traditions that have contributed the most to the Western classical canon, we may think first of Germany and Austria, France and Italy—but we would be remiss not to think as well of the Czech Republic. Composers born in Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia and raised amid the distinctive folk traditions of Central Europe have created some of the richest, intoxicatingly beautiful melodies ever composed.
