О программе

Premiered in the middle of the 1980s by Isaac Stern who commissioned the work, L'Arbre des songes (in English, The Tree of Dreams) is a concerto for violin and orchestra. A very large orchestra featuring a piano, a cymbalum, and 5 percussionists! Those extra instruments, as well as the melodies and harmonies imagined by Dutilleux, create a dreamy atmosphere. No wonder why the composer ended up calling his score the way he did. Renaud Capuçon, soloist guest of the orchestra, has already recorded this work in 2002 with Maestro Myung Whun-Chung – the album was released on the Virgin Classics label and rewarded with a Diapason d'or.

The second part of the programme features the Tchaikovsky Sixth and last symphony. Russian music is now a large part of the Orchestre du Capitole's repertoire. Since Tugan Sokhiev's appointment as the music director of the orchestra, they are widely acclaimed for their performances of Prokofiev, Mussorgsky, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich... and Tchaikovsky, whose 4th and 5th symphonies have already been recorded by them and released on the Naïve label.
