О программе

The last concert of this series starring Hélène Grimaud at the Salle Pleyel and the Cité de la musique brings the French pianist to play with the German cellist Jan Vogler.

In autumn 2010, Jan Vogler and Hélène Grimaud went on tour to perform a chamber music programme made up of works by Schumann, Brahms and Shostakovich; they had time to maturate this repertoire before bringing it at the Cité de la musique.

The Fantasiestücke, Op. 73 by Schumann have been originally written in A for the soft sound of clarinet, but the cello's version is often played too. Also composed in three movements, Brahms' Cello Sonata Op. 38 is commonly known as the "pastoral sonata," probably referring to its spontaneity and freshness. As for Shostakovich's Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 40, its 4-movement classical structure embraces both lyricism (Largo) and a frenetic virtuosity (final Allegro).
