Sobre el programa...

Edgar Moreau, the French rising star in the cello world, is back on medici.tv in the company of his chamber music partner, Pierre-Yves Hodique.

Remember: in 2011, aged 17 only, Edgar Moreau received from Valery Gergiev's hands the second prize and the prize for the best performance of a contemporay piece at the 14th Tchaikovsky competition. A few months later, the young cellist made his début on medici.tv before being nominated "Révélation soliste instrumental de l'année" by the jury of the prestigious Victoires de la Musique Classique. Since then, Edgar Moreau has signed with the record label Erato and notably appeared at the Annecy Classic Festival along with Khatia Buniatishvili and Renaud Capuçon.

For his first recital at the Louvre auditorium (Paris, France), he is the guest of the composer Jean-Frédéric Neuburger and will perform his piece Souffle sur les cendres as well as classic works for the cello repertoire by Robert Schumann, Gabriel Fauré, and Alfred Schnittke.

Musée du Louvre: Jean-Luc Martinez, President Director; Monique Devaux, Concerts Artistic Director.

Jean-Frédéric Neuburger about Souffle sur les cendres:

"I intended to compose a virtuoso piece using the cello idiom without losing my own harmonic and rhythmical language. The scordatura offered me a lot of possibilities: throughout the piece, extended double stops with the bass note played on an open string create the illusion of two cellos playing together. These double stops are sometimes repeated violently (such as in the first cadenza) or sustained during long crescendos: in both cases, these double stops shall evoke a "breath," mentioned in the title, by saturating the instrument sonority."
