Sobre el programa...

Dutch maestro and legendary conductor of the Concertgebouw Orchestra Bernard Haitink returns to Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall to lead the RCM Symphony Orchestra in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24 and Strauss’ An Alpine Symphony. They are joined by the award-winning young pianist Martin James Bartlett, who we featured previously on medici.tv as part of the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

At the ripe old age of 21, Martin James Bartlett's delicate and evocative playing has already won critics' and audiences' hearts the world over. The 2014 BBC Young Musician of the Year and RCM Concerto Competition winner performs here Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 24 in C Minor, a dark and passionate work that is among the most beloved compositions.

Haitink and the RCM Symphony Orchestra follow the concerto up with a performance of Strauss' Alpine tone poem, a monumental work in which the composer calls for an immense orchestra of around 125 musicians. The programmatic work depicts a day spent climbing in the Alps, from dawn to dusk.
