In 1869, Alexander Borodin came to tackle the composition of a work for which he would become famous: the opera Prince Igor. The composer, very busy with his scientific activity, had to set aside this composition, but he went back to the task in 1874, continuing to work on the opera for more than a decade. When he died, in 1887, the partition remained unfinished, his fellow composers Rimsky-Korsakov and Glazunov finally completing it in 1890. Luckily, he had the time to write his Polovtsian Dances, whose melodies continue to enchant their audience! Polovtsian Dances exist in two versions: one for choir and one for orchestra. Here, you’ll find some terrific renditions of the orchestral version played by renowned ensembles, such as the 2012 Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert with Gustavo Dudamel!
