Program notes
The legendary American jazz singer Dianne Reeves shares the stage with Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2004 as the world's largest jazz festival! Born into a family of eminent musicians — including her uncle, double-bassist Charles Burrell, and cousin, keyboardist George Duke — Reeves has enjoyed an impressive career ever since recording her first album in 1977. The winner of five Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album — second all-time only to Ella Fitzgerald — she has earned her place among the biggest names in jazz. Her versatility, virtuosity, and talent for improvisation allow her to excel in a diverse range of genres from blues and bossa nova to soul, scat, pop, and African music styles, making her one of the greatest jazz vocalists of her generation.
