Program notes

The young Swiss cellist Christoph Croisé and winner of the 2017 Swiss Ambassador's Award! presents a recital—the Swiss Ambassador's Awards Concert—on the stage of Wigmore Hall. He is accompanied by the Russian pianist Alexander Panfilov, second prize winner at the 2018 International Music Competition Harbin. On the program are works by Thomas Demenga, Daniel Schnyder, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, and Tchaikovsky.

The two young musicians open the concert with Thomas Demenga's New York Honk. They continue with Rachmaninov's Cello Sonata in G Minor and Shostakovich's Cello Sonata in D Minor, a piece the composer continued reworking until the end of his life, with the last edition published 12 years after his death. Next comes Tchaikovsky's Pezzo Capriccioso, Op. 62 for Cello and Orchestra, followed by Daniel Schnyder's Jazz Sonata and Ad aeternam, which close the concert.
