Discover Jason Starr's documentary on the famed French-American music historian Henry-Louis de La Grange.

The film For the Love of Mahler follows Henry-Louis de La Grange on his annual pilgrimage from Marrakech to Paris and to Toblach in the Italian Alps, capturing him in the moment where he is busily revising his epic four-volume biography of Gustav Mahler. Starr’s audiovisual portrait of the La Grange explores how Mahler’s music inspired the music historian’s life, and how he channeled what could have been a self-indulgent obsession into a lifetime of groundbreaking discoveries, storied friendships and award-winning accomplishments. In La Grange’s life story, viewers also see clearly music’s remarkable power to change lives.
