Program notes
The Los Angeles Philharmonic and its artistic director Gustavo Dudamel celebrate the 20th anniversary of Walt Disney Concert Hall in a gala concert honoring visionary architect Frank Gehry, the mastermind behind the iconic venue. The program opens with the prelude from Bach’s Violin Partita, the first piece performed in the Hall while it was still under construction. Esa-Pekka Salonen reimagines Bach’s melody in his piece FOG, enhanced by original choreography by Lucinda Childs. Gehry’s love of the sea, orchestral music, and jazz are combined in performances from Herbie Hancock, award-winning R&B singer-songwriter H.E.R., and a beautiful rendition of Debussy’s La mer, performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel.
