Program notes

A ballet inspired by the imposing Carpathian Mountains, fifteen Hungarian songs, a Russian concerto dedicated to a jazz clarinetist and his band, and a tango: what could they possibly all have in common? Find out with this program featuring Sir Simon Rattle at the head of the London Symphony Orchestra and its choir joined by guest soloists including the Labèque sisters: together they explore the powerful folk music origins of classical masterpieces by Bartók, Stravinsky, Leonard Bernstein, and Osvaldo Golijov. Spectacular!
