Program notes

Widely regarded as one of the most incredible violin prodigies of our time, Maxim Vengerov returns to a work he’s been playing for over 30 years, since he was a teenager: Tchaikovsky’s rapturous Violin Concerto!

Part of a world tour with the excellent Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra under the masterful baton of Myung-Whun Chung, this concert at the Wiener Konzerthaus showcases the renowned violinist, pedagogue, and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in one of the most beloved scores ever written for the violin. To complete the program, Chung leads the orchestra in a work that indelibly marked the history of classical music: Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, a piece so ahead of its time that its 1913 premiere nearly resulted in a riot…
