Program notes

Its first edition was won by none other than Gustavo Dudamel, and it also counts the likes of Oksana Lyniv and Lahav Shani among its laureates: it's the Bamberg Symphony's prestigious Mahler Competition, held every three years as a showcase for talented young conductors to prove their mettle alongside one of the world's preeminent orchestras! Tune in for the final round of the 2023 edition from Bamberg, where 350 candidates have been whittled down to three exceptional finalists, who will conduct Igor Stravinsky's neoclassical Violin Concerto in D and Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 7, the unforgettable "Song of the Night."
