Program notes
At the 2026 Herbstgold Festival from Esterházy Palace, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe joins forces with a sublime cast of soloists — soprano Miriam Kutrowatz, mezzo Johanna Krokovay, tenor Jan Petryka, and bass Matthias Winckhler — and the celebrated Wiener Singverein to perform an unrivalled pillar of the choral repertoire, Mozart’s Requiem, under the baton of artistic direcctor Julian Rachlin. Inspired by a ninth-century Gregorian antiphone, Arvo Pärt’s dazzling Da pacem, Domine acts as a soulful prelude to Mozart’s masterpiece. The Requiem covers a rich and unforgettable emotional landscape, from the haunting "Introitus" (the only movement completed by Mozart before his death) and the depths of melancholy in the famous "Lacrimosa" to the luminous radiance of the "Sanctus" and the serene finality of the "Lux aeterna."
