Program notes

Experience an evening that journeys through a modern reimagining of the Baroque concerto grosso and two iconic chamber works of the Romantic period at La Jolla Music Society SummerFest! Sensational soloist Stefan Jackiw joins forces with a remarkable instrumental ensemble in Jessie Montgomery’s Concerto Grosso, an expressive reinterpretation of the genre by one of America's most talented contemporary composers. Vilde Frang and Stephen Waarts shine in Ysaÿe’s virtuosic yet poetic Sonata for Two Violins, dedicated to Queen Elisabeth of Belgium. The concert concludes with a stunning rendition of Dvořák’s Piano Quintet in A Major, a lively and striking chamber work that blends classical structure with Czech folk influences.
