Program notes
Russian pianist Denis Matsuev has launched a new international piano competition for children: the Grand Piano Competition. Its first edition is to be held in Moscow this spring. Discover the second day of the Round II on medici.tv.
During the Round II of the Grand Piano Competition, the second half of the candidates perform the concerto of their choice with a symphonic orchestra. They can either play the whole concerto or only one movement—as long as the overall time of the performance does not exceed 20 minutes.
The I International Grand Piano Competition for children up to 16 years of age is to be held at the Moscow Conservatory from April 30 to May 5, 2016. By continuing the tradition of Russian piano school, this international competition for young pianists will help to support young artists around the world and to extend international creative connections. The idea of the competition belongs to pianist Denis Matsuev, who is the chairman of the organizing committee and the artistic director of the competition. medici.tv broadcasts the Opening Gala, two days of the Round II and the Awards Ceremony and Gala Closing Concert.
Piano is the most popular music instrument in the world. The largest number of the competitions and most famous names come out of the field of piano music! We have a huge number of different competitions, but what we have planed is drastically different from everything that we have had by now. Those competitors who come to play at the two live rounds, will feel like winners: everyone will get a chance to announce himself to the world. (Denis Matsuev, about the Grand Piano Competition).
