Program notes

An episode of Classic Archive pairing archival footage of two of the 20th century's greatest opera singers, Galina Vishnevskaya and Boris Christoff.

Vishnevskaya performs works by Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky with her husband Rostropovich in Paris in 1970, while Christoff performs excerpts from Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov with the ORTF Orchestra under the direction of Jean-Claude Hartemann (1966) and the London Symphony Orchestra (1958), interprets Russian folk "Song of the Volga Boatmen" with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (1959) under the direction of Eric Robinson.
