Program notes

The fifth edition of the Festival Paax GNP reaches a thrilling conclusion with a vibrant symphonic program entitled “Earth’s Heartbeats”: a night dedicated to cultural heritage, memory, and celebration, conducted by the festival's founder and artistic director Alondra de la Parra. The stage lights up with the world premiere of Leo Rondón’s Entreverao Llanero — performed by the composer himself on Venezuelan cuatro and the Impossible Orchestra alongside the Madrid Community Orchestra — showcasing the rich folklore of Venezuela’s plains. Soloist Edicson Ruiz steps into the spotlight in Tan Dun’s Concerto for Double Bass Wolf Totem, inspired by Chinese writer Jiang Rong’s eponymous novel depicting a life-altering encounter with Mongolian wolves. Silvestra Revueltas’s iconic La noche de los mayas provides the perfect grand finale: the composer’s phenomenal film score is distilled into a dazzling suite that unites the orchestra in a single heartbeat.
