Program notes

Between shadow and light, experience six ballets of the highest quality, among which is Petite Mort (created on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Mozart's death), by the Czech choreographer Jiří Kylián, brilliantly interpreted by the Nederlands Dans Theater. This retrospective takes the plunge into the universe and style of this singular personality—the master of chairoscuro in contemporary ballet—in all his dualities, by turns anguished and oppressive, jubilant and liberating.

The import that this genius of movement places on the music accompanying his creations is a testament to his open-mindedness and the depth of his artistic perceptivity. Not satisfied merely to convey his vision of classical masterpieces, he also makes use of sound in all its possible forms, drawing inspiration from every breath and sigh, every emotion stirred by the works of Bach, Mozart, Webern, and Reich in the minds of listeners and spectators...

This is just one of many beautiful ballets available on medici.tv, the web's leading classical music streaming platform!
