In 1872, Dvořák created the Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 5. However, the Czech maestro was not satisfied with his work and put it aside for about fifteen years before editing it. Finally, in 1887, he composed a new quintet in the same tonality. The result was astonishing: Dvořák was at the height of his compositional art, and in the midst of his slavic period of music. Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major, Op. 81 was created in 1888 in Prague, with its four movements inspired by the traditional music of Eastern European countries, capturing the heart of its public since its premiere. Even today, this quintet is among the most played and appreciated scores of the piano repertoire. Come and discover this masterpiece of chamber music on medici.tv!
