Few acts can get European audiences revelling in soul quite like China Moses and her group, the Vibe Tribe. She's got American attitude and European finesse, something that stems from her French upbringing and to the influence of her mother, the great Dee Dee Bridgewater. With a firm hold in both francophone and anglophone markets, Moses delivers music with universal themes, as evidenced by her 2017 album, Nightintales, a journey through nightlife that all listeners can relate to, no matter their language.
In this concert we find her in the Ukraine, where she delivers tracks from Nightintales alongside a fantastic trio of instrumentalists. We travel through the evening hours with songs like "Disconnected," "Lobby Call," "Blame Jerry" and "Hangover" signalling the way. One notable moment is the performance of "Put It On The Line," a piece about seduction in which Moses beautifully incorporates the character of each instrument: Luigi Grasso's baritone sounds how "every man should sound," Marius Aleksa's kick drum sounds how every woman's body should respond, and Neil Charles's basslines feel like skin touching the following morning. It's a humurous, interactive and charming performance.
