О программе

Sol Gabetta, Baïba Skride, Bertrand Chamayou and Frank Braley gather again at the Solsberg Festival in 2012 to perform works by Schubert and Beethoven.

The Solsberg Festival was founded in 2006 by Argentinian cellist Sol Gabetta who is now its Artistic Director. In an exceptional site – the Baroque church St. Martin in Rheinfelden and the Olsberg's cloister – the festival gathers once a year some of the best contemporary talents in the world in a friendly atmosphere with exceptional concerts.

In 2012, the 7th edition of the festival welcomes choice musicians alongside Sol Gabetta: violinist Baïba Skride (1st prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2001), and pianists Bertrand Chamayou (who was awarded in 2012 a Victoire de la Musique classique in the category Instrumental Soloist of the Year) and Frank Braley (Premier Grand Prix and Prix du Public at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 1991 aged only 22).

For the opening of this second concert, they perform Franz Schubert's Allegro in A Minor, D. 947 that was afterwards subtitled by its publisher "Lebensstürme". With its mix of dramatic accents to more lyrical themes, this work reflects a creative renewal in the composer's life, who surpasses the other composers of his time.

Then the Piano Trio No. 2 in E-flat Major, D. 929 is one of the latest works Schubert composed. Several themes appear, successively highlighted by the solos of the cello, the piano and the violin, as the composer used ingenious countermelodies.

The concert ends with the Piano Trio No. 4 in B-flat Major, Op. 11 that Beethoven dedicated to Maria Whilhelmine von Thun, his protector in Vienna.
