О программе

After their first collaboration during the month of February, when the Detroit Symphony Orchestra brilliantly performed a 100% Beethoven program, medici.tv and the orchestra present their second live co-webcast with this Ravel/Dvořák/Ives concert!

Lead by music director Leonard Slatkin, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra opens this performance with Ravel's La Valse, a "choreographic poem" that the composer had initially written for the piano, and that was first performed in front of a public of salons composed by such eminent artists as Igor Stravinsky and Francis Poulenc, among others... Joined by Lynn Harrell who plays the Dvořák Cello concerto, the DSO concludes this programme with Charles Ives's Symphony No. 4. It is a remarkable fact that the orchestra will be performing all 4 symphonies by Charles Ives at the New York Carnegie Hall during the month of May 2013. The work of the American composer Charles Ives has been at the repertoire of the DSO for years, notably thanks to Neeme Järvi who recorded during the 1990s the two first symphonies by the composer with the orchestra.

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Leonard Slatkin have recorded several records together, all of them were released on the Naxos label.
