Le Concours International George Enesco

The George Enescu International Competition is inspired by the life and vision of Enescu, who constantly supported young musicians through scholarships and awards, such as his 1912 tour, aimed at establishing a national composition award.

Remarkable soloists such as pianists Radu Lupu, Valentin Gheorghiu and Dan Grigore, violinist Silvia Marcovici, who has performed under the baton of the world's most famous conductors (Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, etc.), soprano Ileana Cotrubaș, mezzo-soprano Viorica Cortez, composer Dan Dediu, as well as the most acclaimed Romanian musicians of the younger generation – Alexandru Tomescu, Vlad Stănculeasa, Remus Azoiței, Anna Țifu, Stefan Tarara, Valentin Răduțiu – are just a few of the most prominent Romanian musicians at an international level who debuted as laureates of the George Enescu International Competition.

Currently, the competition is held every two years and includes the sections: Violin, Cello, Piano and Composition. Starting with the 2024 edition, conducting and instrumental performance masterclasses were introduced, and in 2026, for the first time, the composition dimension in a masterclass format.

The George Enescu International Competition has been a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) since 2002 and of the Alink-Argerich Foundation since 2006, ensuring international standards of organization and professional recognition.
