Sobre el programa...

The São Paulo State Symphony is live on medici.tv, and joins forces with the country's best-known musician: the pianist Nelson Freire.

Under the theme of the interaction between high and popular arts, the São Paulo orchestra presents an original programme in which the emblematic Mahler's First Symphony, with its reminiscences of a popular folk tone, meets a contemporary composition, Terra Brasilis, piece composed by the rising star Clarice Assad (Aaron Copland award, ASCAP award, ...). Subtitled "Fantasia sobre o Hino nacional," Terra Brasilis draws its inspiration from the Brazilian national anthem, composed by Francisco Manuel da Silva in 1822, and combines the exploration of new sonorities with the Rossini accents of the original composition.

In between, Nelson Freire, the Brazilian pianist renowned for his colourful touch, will interpret Chopin's second concerto, a potent work composed by Chopin when he was aged aged only 20. In this masterpiece, the brightness, doubts and aspirations of the young composer are revealed in a subtle cantabile expression.

This concert will also be webcast live on www.citedelamusiquelive.tv. It will be broadcast by France Musique on the 27th of November 2013 at 8pm (Paris time).
