Sobre el programa...

The Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra makes its highly anticipated American debut at Carnegie Hall under the skillful baton of Founder and Artistic Director Dionysis Grammenos. The concert opens with Anna Clyne’s contemporary composition <<rewind<<, inspired by the image of analog video tape rapidly scrolling backwards with fleeting moments of skipping, freezing, and warping. Grammenos and the orchestra also performs selections from Nikos Skalkottas’s Greek Dances, hailed as a musical monument to the nation’s rich cultural heritage. These dances are the twentieth-century composer's most popular pieces, known for their fiery and fiercely original style. The program ends with Leonard Bernstein’s iconic Symphonic Dances from West Side Story: an orchestral suite of operatic scope in nine movements, expanded and adapted from the original musical, containing some of the most romantic and enchanting music of Bernstein's career.
