Program notes
Discover the third act of German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen's opera Donnerstag aus Licht, the first in the famed Licht cycle, to which he devoted no less than 25 years of his life. This landmark act, dedicated to the archangel Michael, explores all the poetry that its composer finds in biblical texts, notably the Testament of Moses, the Syriac Apocalypse of Baruch, and the Testament of Levi. It also contains autobiographical elements, and who better than a maestro and an ensemble specializing in the composer to unveil to us the soul of this masterwork? Maxime Pascal conducts a spellbinding performance at the Philharmonie de Paris with the exceptional artists of the ensemble Le Balcon.
