Program notes

Renowned English pianist and musicologist Peter Hill transports audiences back a century to explore Stravinsky's scandalous new ballet, The Rite of Spring.

On May 29, 1913, Paris' Théatre des Champs-Elysées hosted the premiere of a new ballet by Igor Stravinsky. The uproar it provoked became the stuff of legend, but more than a century later, its rhyme and reason have become difficult to understand. With the help of the Berliner Philharmoniker and Bernard Haitink, pianist-musicologist Peter Hill explores Stravinsky's masterpiece and the scandal that surrounded it in a documentary that is sure to fascinate audiences.
