Program notes

The documentary series, Une histoire de la musique à travers ses instruments (A History of Music Through its Instruments), takes a look at the history of the instruments used in Western music. Here, you can find out more about the harpsichord.

The harpsichord is a musical instrument that is plucked by a device called a jack. During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the harpsichord repertoire reached its peak before experiencing a certain decline during the Romantic period. In the early twentieth century, interest in the harpsichord was rekindled with the revival of earlier music.
