Program notes

The man some call the world’s greatest violinist turns his talents to pedagogy: join Polonsky Visiting Professor of Violin Maxim Vengerov and the young musicians of London’s Royal College of Music (RCM) for a master class on Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major. The student soloists are accompanied by the RCM Symphony Orchestra.

A violinist of international renown and Grammy award-winner, Maxim Vengerov is a regular soloist with the world’s greatest orchestras conducted by the most brilliant maestros. Tireless in his search for new forms of creative expression and influenced by numerous musical styles—from baroque to jazz to even rock—the violinist also trades off between the violin bow and the conducting baton, just like his mentor Mstislav Rostropovich before him. Recently he has become interested in teaching: named violin professor at London’s Royal College of Music, he is also a frequent guest at the Menuhin International Music in Rolle, near Lac Léman.
