Program notes

Marco Pierobon gives a master class on Hummel’s Concerto in E Major.

Hummel's Trumpet Concerto in E Major was composed in 1803 for the Viennese court trumpeter and inventor of the key-trumpet, Anton Waidinger. There are moments, primarily in the second movement, where Weidinger is believed to have altered the music possibly without the Hummel's agreement, in order to fit better on his instrument. Originally written in E major, the concerto is often performed in E-flat major as it thus becomes easier to perform on modern E-flat and B-flat trumpets.

Marco Pierobon is an accomplished Italian trumpet player and professor. He won first prize in international competitions in Passau, Germany, and Imperia and Aqui Terme, Italy. For nearly a decade, Marco has been the Principal Trumpet of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra of Florence and the Accademia di Santa Cecilia Orchestra of Rome. He has collaborated with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Filarmonica della Scala Orchestra. Since 2007, Marco has been trumpet professor at the Conservatories of Bolzano and Reggio Emilia, Italy.
