Program notes

The trio of Jan Galega Brönnimann, Moussa Cissokho and Omri Hason, known as JMO, joined by Sadio Cissokho, are a group exploring the sounds of traditional and modern music from Europe and Africa. Cissokho plays the kora, an African harp, which has 22 strings. Originally from Senegal, Cissokho was taught by his father how to play the Kora and at an early age found himself playing in many circumstances, from local ceremonies to the National Ballet of Senegal. Brönnimann plays bass clarinet and the soprano saxophone, an entirely different instrument to the kora, in sound and history, but this juxtaposition of instruments is the hallmark of the ensemble’s sound. A setlist full of original compositions from all trio members, from three different cultures.
