Program notes

With the crew of the Live from Abbey Road Sessions, the Jazz@ series creates a space where musicians can really shine. The room is simple, the audience is small, the sound is great and the camera is 4K. Here, international artists from a mix of genres and cultures are able to get away from the noise and let their art breathe.

This is the final episode in a fantastic series, with two world class singers closing out the show. First up is the great Kurt Elling, a modern singer with all the poise, talent and charm of the old crooners. Kurt got a Blue Note deal from a demo tape in the 1990s and has since built a career as one of the world's most reliable and lovable jazz vocalists. Having shared the stage with Al Jarreau, Jon Hendricks, Buddy Guy and many more, he is as good as anyone and would be just as comfortable fronting Basie's big band as he is serenading small audiences in intimate venues.

Indra Rios-Moore is known as the "celestial voice of jazz," a singer of supreme ability who puts her own modern twist on top of the twin traditions of jazz and the blues. Her father, Donald Moore, was a double bassist with the likes of Sonny Rollins, Archie Shepp and Elvin Jones and Indra takes up the mantle, this time as leader, singing in front of her regular accompanists and building a strong following in Denmark and Scandinavia first before breaking internationally. She kicks off with her hit, an interpretation of the old song "Little Black Train."
