Program notes

Meet singer, composer and producer George Clinton for a funk master class on the stage of the 2012 Jazz à Vienne festival. The artist unites his two legendary bands under the name Parliament-Funkadelic, and interprets standards of the P-Funk movement he helped create.

For more than 50 years, George Clinton has been dubbed the “Godfather of Funk”. He is the founder of the bands Parliament and Funkadelic, who have invented an extravagant brand of music mixing funk, acid jazz, as well as rhythm and blues. The musicians of those two bands were joined into one collective in 1997 on the occasion of their induction into the Rock'n Roll Hall Of Fame. Afterwards, Clinton has been known for his high profile collaboration with such names as Prince, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar, and continues to be an inspiration for younger generations of musicians.
