Program notes

Esperanza Spalding is a virtuosic and talented musician that has received widespread acclaim as well as multiple Grammy Awards. After earning her degree, she quickly became the youngest teacher at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. A double bassist, bass guitarist, singer, composer, arranger, and academic, the American wunderkind is as comfortable performing jazz standards as she is stepping on stage alongside popular musicians such as Prince.

During this 2012 concert at the Jazz à Vienne festival, the amazing musician presents works from her latest album Radio Music Society. The performance is masterful from end to end, with the virtuoso comfortably jumping from double bass to bass guitar, accompanied by a top group of instrumentalists (including guitarist Jef Lee Johnson) with a superb brass section.
