Program notes

This fourth installment of Patrick Savey's famed documentary series on the North Sea Jazz Festival boat concludes the narrative on two epic voyages: the first in jazz history, and the second on the North Sea, from Rotterdam to Göteborg, through Oslo and Hamburg. We are treated to interviews with legendary bassist Marcus Miller and iconic singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, notably discussing the greatest names in jazz, from Herbie Hancock to McCoy Tynern and Miles Davis.

Released in 2008, this film is a gem that unveils the mysteries of the lives of these great artists, but also reveals the impressions they left with those close to them. Another fascinating facet of this documentary is that it is that it not only showcases excerpts from the multiple concerts that were held on the ship, but is also a picture taken at a turning point in jazz and music history as a whole. The lucky viewer will get to experience an interview of the great McCoy Tyner... conducted by Marcus Miller himself!
