Program notes

Recapture this exceptional concert of trumpet player Buck Clayton, recorded in 1965 in Geneva by the Radio Télévision Suisse: a sparkling performance by this stalwart of the Count Basie Orchestra.

American trumpeter and arranger Buck Clayton is one of the great performers in the history of jazz. He joined the Count Basie Orchestra in the middle of the 1930’s and became known for his outstanding trumpet solos. During the 1940’s he recorded a series of highly acclaimed albums together with Billie Holiday, Teddy Wilson and Lester Young. Clayton performed in a number of tours appearing at the greatest American and European festivals, playing alongside musicians such as Sidney Bechet, Jimmy Rushing or as the leader of his own combos.
