Program notes

Join NYO Jazz at London’s Royal Albert Hall for a musical journey through the history and evolution of big band jazz…

From its roots in New Orleans—the birthplace of the genre—to the heyday of swing, the program highlights the stylistic richness and vitality of this tradition. Iconic works by Duke Ellington and Mongo Santamaria interact with more contemporary compositions, demonstrating jazz’s constant reinvention and the excellence of the young musicians brought together in NYO Jazz. This exceptional evening also features Dee Dee Bridgewater, a major figure in vocal jazz. Heir to a tradition that she perpetuates with energy and modernity, Bridgewater brings her voice and charisma to this concert celebrating live jazz. A vibrant encounter between generations and eras that should not be missed!
