Program notes

For this concert at the Cité de la Musique, The Bad Plus invites extraordinary musicians Tim Berne, Sam Newsome, and Ron Miles to commemorate the incredible Ornette Coleman and his 1972 album Science Fiction. On the program: a rich and vibrant performance, inspired improvisations, alongside pertinent pop and electro-dub interpretations which illuminate the compositions of the free jazz pioneer.

The Bad Plus is a jazz trio composed of American musicians, including double-bassist Reid Anderson, pianist Ethan Iverson, and drummer David King. Since 2000, the trio continues to push the boundaries of jazz by performing works by Nirvana, ABBA, the Bee Gees, Queen, Aphex Twin, and Björk, while drawing from the music of Igor Stravinsky and Ornette Coleman.
