Program notes

"Where do the birds fly after the last sky?" This question from Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish finds a striking echo in the music of composer and oud player Anouar Brahem. Brahem's 2025 album After the Last Sky is composed of intimate chamber pieces conceived alongside his longtime collaborator double bassist Dave Holland, British jazz pianist Django Bates and German cellist Anja Lechner. On the stage of the Philharmonie de Paris, the four musicians blend their unique sounds and musical universes to offer the characteristic Brahem experience: a musical voyage deeply anchored in the pure tradition of Arabic music fusioned with a certain Western modernity. Immerse youself in this rich and captivating moment, both timeless and poignantly relevant to our current moment.
